What does TileSmith do?
TileSmith reads a word-game screenshot, recreates the board and rack, then suggests legal moves after you review the detected state.
Do I need to correct the board?
Sometimes. Screenshots can vary by device and game layout, so TileSmith makes the board and rack editable before scoring. One misread tile can change the legal move list, so a quick review before scoring gets you the most accurate results.
Which screenshots work best right now?
TileSmith currently works best with mobile screenshots from Words With Friends Classic. Other word-game apps, tablet layouts, and unusual screen states are experimental.
How do I enter a blank tile in the rack?
Use a question mark to represent a blank tile in the rack editor. If OCR reads a blank as a normal letter, tap the rack tile and change it to a question mark so the solver can explore all the letter values that blank tile could represent.
Why does TileSmith show a review step instead of going straight to moves?
OCR can misread tiles — common mix-ups include O and Q, I and L, or missing a blank tile. The review step lets you correct any errors before scoring so the move suggestions reflect your actual board. Skipping review and scoring an incorrect board will give you moves that are not legal in your real game.
Does TileSmith score cross words?
Yes. Every move is scored including the main word and any cross words it forms with existing tiles. Bonus squares that apply to cross words are counted too. This is why TileSmith occasionally surfaces short plays that look modest but score more than a longer word.
How does TileSmith handle premium squares?
TileSmith knows the full board layout including double-letter, triple-letter, double-word, and triple-word squares. It applies bonuses only to tiles placed in the current move, not to existing tiles passing through a premium square. Bonus multipliers from word squares stack when a move covers more than one.
Are screenshots shown publicly?
No. Screenshots are used to analyze the board state and are not displayed publicly by TileSmith.

What dictionary does TileSmith use?
TileSmith uses the TWL (Tournament Word List) dictionary, which is the standard dictionary for Words With Friends. A move is only suggested if the main word and all cross words it forms are valid TWL words.
