Every 2-letter word in Words With Friends

Two-letter words are the engine underneath every strong Words With Friends game, and most casual players only know a fraction of them. You probably know AM, AT, IT, and IN without even thinking about it. But the full list is much longer, and the players who have it down cold are the ones who seem to find a legal play in situations where everyone else is stuck — because they can thread a small word into a gap you didn't think had room.

Short words do two important things simultaneously. First, they get tiles onto the board when longer plays aren't available, keeping your rack turnover healthy. Second — and this is the part casual players miss — they create hooks. Dropping a two-letter word parallel to an existing word often scores both words at once, and suddenly a modest play becomes a very good turn. The ability to do that cleanly, in tight board positions, is what separates good players from great ones.

Some two-letter words are worth drilling specifically. QI is the obvious standout — high tile value, easy to place. ZA (informal for pizza) is legal in Words With Friends and pairs well with any open A. JO, XI, XU, KA, OX, and AX are all legal and all give you ways to play high-value tiles in short bursts. AA, AE, AI, OE, and OI look odd on paper but are perfectly valid and useful for clearing awkward vowel-heavy racks.

Below is the complete list of 2-letter words valid in Words With Friends, with a quick definition for each, so you can study the ones you don't know and keep them ready for the moment the board is begging for a short play.
